Cars parked on sidewalk raise concerns

A Glenwood businessman apologised for his business vehicles parked on the pavement at Rick Turner Road.

A GLENWOOD business on Rick Turner Road which has, over the past two weeks, parked its vehicles on the pavement along the road, is cause for community concerns.

A Glenwood resident who spoke to Berea Mail on conditions of anonymity said the business, which operates just below Penzance Road on Francois (Rick Turner) Road had parked its vehicles all over the sidewalk which was illegal. “Pedestrians and school children can’t walk pass on the pavement and there is just no space for wheelchair access so everyone will have to walk on the busy road. Usually there are about five or six vehicles parked outside,” she added.

When Berea Mail visited the business, Marine Services and VIP Tours, CEO, Kumar Batohi said he didn’t see why the parked vehicles was such a big problem. “Our neighbours have not complained and we run our business from here and actually ensure the community is safe with our constant presence,” he said.
He apologised to the community for the inconvenience and explained that the vehicles were parked outside on the pavement while renovations were being done on the property. “By next month the work should be complete and we will be able to park the cars back in our yard. We have never left any of our building rubble outside or on the pavement,” he added.

Ward Councillor Mmabatho Tembe said she was not made aware of the community concerns but would look into the matter.
