Shoplifter caught in Glenwood

Local businesses are urged to be vigilant as the festive season approaches.

A shoplifter was handed over to police on Monday after a shop assistant alerted ADT security who immediately dispatched an armed response officer to the store.

The ADT Security Monitoring Centre  dispatched  Officer Mhlengi Sishi, who arrived at the centre within minutes. The shop assistant explained that a suspicious individual had been wandering around the store for quite some time without purchasing anything.  Sishi confronted the suspect who was found to have several stolen items in his possession.  The thief was apprehended and handed over for arrest to members of the Umbilo SAPS.

“I am proud of ARO Sishi’s quick response which ensured that another criminal has now been placed behind bars,” said Ivan Govender, District Manager of ADT Security KwaZulu Natal

Govender encouraged business owners to be extra vigilant, especially as the festive season approaches. “Ensure that necessary precautions are taken and that your business premises is adequately secured. Contact your security company to test the alarm system to ensure that everything, including additional hardware such as panic buttons and beams are working properly,” he said.
