KZN police have seized 118 guns in the province over the past month.

KZN police have been commended for the seizure of 118 illegal guns in the province over the past month.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised KwaZulu-Natal police, saying: “We will continue to root-out the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province to make it a safer place for its citizens and prevent serious and violent crimes.”

His gratitude emanates from the seizure of the guns between 1 and 31 October with the arrest of more than 130 suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition.

These operations were conducted in the province by different clusters including Ethekwini, UThukela, Umgungundlovu, Umkhanyakude, Ilembe and other clusters.

The recovered firearms included pistols, revolvers, rifles and homemade firearms with an assortment of 868 live rounds of ammunition. Accused appeared in different magistrates courts in the province.
