MAYVILLE crime prevention officers arrested four suspects on Tuesday night after a shootout on Brickfield Road in Overport.
According to Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, Mayville officers were patrolling their perimeter when they spotted a suspicious looking white Toyota Corolla with four occupants inside.
“When the occupants noticed the officers they sped off. The officers gave chase and the suspects fired at the police who returned fire and managed to bring the vehicle to a halt,” Mbhele explained.
A Norinco firearm was recovered from one of the suspects, while all four suspects were arrested for attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
They will appear in court soon.
