Team work leads to arrest

Action by a resident and security officer led to the arrest of a housebreaker in Berea.

QUICK action by a resident and an armed response officer resulted in the arrest of a housebreaker and the recovery of a flat screen television on the Berea in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson the armed response officer had just finished responding to an alarm activation at a property in Musgrave Road and was parked on the side of the road when a resident, Mike Burness approached him for help.

Jackson said he told the officer that a housebreaker carrying a flat screen television had been spotted fleeing from the resident’s property in Wolferdene Road.
“Our officer took a description of the suspect and drove around the area in search of him. He tracked the suspect down in Musgrave Road and after questioning him, the suspect took our officer to the television which he had hidden in nearby bushes,” he said.

Jackson said the resident identified the television and the suspect was arrested and handed over to the Berea SAPS who attended the scene.
Burness said he was grateful for the assistance the officer had provided.
“He was very helpful and I am thankful to have the TV back,” he said.
