Blue Security sponsors Tree of Light star

Blue Security has sponsored the star at the top of the Tree of Light, which will be erected in Jameson Park on Friday night.

A SHINING symbol of Blue Security’s caring commitment to the Durban community will adorn the top of the Highway Hospice Tree of Light this Christmas.

Blue Security managing director Henk van Bemmelen said the company’s sponsorship of the star at the top of the tree, which will be erected in Jameson Park, opposite Mitchell Park, in Morningside on Friday, 2 December, represented the firm’s love, care and concern for the community.

“We are committed to caring for and protecting the communities that we serve and we also highly value the sterling work of the Highway Hospice and its team, which is similarly dedicated to caring for people when they are in most need of compassionate care,” Van Bemmelen said.

Highway Hospice fundraiser Heather Walker said the tree was erected every year as the NGOs major fundraising drive, giving the public the opportunity to buy a globe for R50 in memory of a loved one, while corporates were invited to sponsor the star for R10 000 as a symbol of their love, care and concern for the community.

Walker said the names of corporates and loved ones would be listed in the organisation’s book of remembrance.
Walker said the company’s sponsorship of the star was a “fantastic” contribution to the community fundraising project that would help the organisation.

Highway Hospice cares for around 4000 patients a year and currently has 578 patients on its list receiving services apart from the end care services it provides at its premises in Sherwood.

“We have 12 home care sisters who go out into the community to areas including Botha’s Hill, Hillcrest, Chesterville, Umlazi and the CBD,” she said.

Walker added that the NGO had to fundraise R21 million to meet its budget every year and the Tree of Light was one of its main fundraisers.

The Tree of Light ceremony starts at 6pm on Friday night, with Christmas themed music and the lighting of the tree’s more than 9000 bulbs will take place at 7.45pm, weather permitting. Food stalls will be available and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and blanket.Visit www.mylight.co.za for more information.
