Talk on climate change
A professor from UKZN will give a talk about climate change at the next BotSoc meeting.

AN illustrated presentation by Prof Mike Watkeys on Climate change: just how hot (and cold) has it been in the past, and why? takes place on Monday, 12 December at Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre at 6pm.
After the COP22 conference in Marrakech, Morocco in early November, the press has been full of statements alluding to the fact that the past five years have been the hottest since records began. But what about the years before records began?
This talk by Watkeys, an academic leader in Geological Sciences from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, will outline what methods are used to obtain past climate changes before direct measurements were made. This evidence shows that changes have taken place throughout geological history and the causes of those changes will be explained.
Prof Watkeys is an entertaining speaker who makes scientific concepts understandable to the layman.
All welcome. Entrance, including refreshments, is R40 for members of BotSoc and the Friends of Durban Botanic Gardens, R60 for visitors and R30 for students with cards. Pay at the door.
