Man’s body recovered from harbour

A man died after allegedly driving his vehicle into Durban Harbour last night.

THE body of a man, believed to be in his 70s, was recovered from his vehicle in Durban Harbour at around midnight today (12 December).

According to reports, the man had driven his vehicle down Dust Road parallel to pier two, and had driven off the wharf at around 6pm.
Chitra Bodasing Harduth from ER24 said paramedics received information about a vehicle that was submerged in the water at Durban Harbour and were on standby while Search and Rescue personnel searched for the vehicle.

Search and Rescue operations continued for around six hours before the man's body was found in the harbour.

By 9pm search and rescue operations were still underway and the search continued until the man’s body was recovered at around midnight.
Bodasing said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.
