Update: Man killed after leaving bank

The man was shot at as he was leaving the bank.

THE man who was killed it what was first believed to have been a botched hijacking, had in fact been a victim of an attempted robbery after withdrawing money from a bank on Somtseu Road yesterday.

According to police, the man was attacked by three suspects and shot as he was exiting the Al Baraka Bank.  He attempted to flee his attackers in his vehicle and crashed into the boundary fence of the Durban Magistrate’s Court which is across the road from the bank.

Sadly, the man died of a bullet wound to his upper body before paramedics could reach him. KZN police have urged members of the public not to carry large amounts of cash with them in public. The appeal comes after a 50-year-old man was shot and killed outside the boom gates of the Al Baraka Bank on Durban’s Somtseu Road, yesterday.

Police are investigating a case of murder. None of the cash was taken.
