Motorists brace for hefty fuel hike

Brace yourselves for a hefty fuel price increase in the new year.

THE new year gets off to a shaky start for motorists who can expect a string of petrol price increases in 2017.
According to the Automobile Association, the Central Energy’s Fund unaudited month-end fuel price data reflects a substantial price increase for all types of fuel.

A spokesperson for the AA said the rand had weakened against the dollar since mid-December while the price of international petroleum had continued to rise. Motorists can expect an increase in fuel of 51 cents a litre, 40 cents for diesel and 43 cents per litre for illuminating paraffin.

Petrol is expected to increase by 51 cents a litre, diesel by about 40 cents and illuminating paraffin by 43 cents.
