Crowds flock to Durban beaches

THOUSANDS of people made their way to Durban beaches on New Year’s Day enjoying glorious sunny weather and the knowledge that the holiday is not quite over with Monday being another public holiday.

As in years before, the beachfront area was heavily congested. Unconfirmed reports indicate some emergency vehicles were allegedly pelted with beer bottles by unruly crowds, but it is not yet clear where this took place and what the reasons behind the crowd behaviour were.
