Men arrested for robbery
ON 27 February, two men were arrested by Berea SAPS for robbery in St Thomas Road.
According to Capt PN Naidoo, communications officer, at 12.30pm, Const DT Mofeking and Const SW Ngcobo received a complaint of a robbery in St Thomas Road.
“They responded and were given the description of two suspects. The officers searched the surrounding area and found the suspects opposite the Engen garage in Stephen Dlamini Road,” he said.
The police searched the suspects and found them in possession of the complainant’s cellphones. They were both found to be in possession of a knife.
“They were arrested for robbery and were detained at SAPS Berea. Quick response and crime prevention techniques helped in arresting these suspects and recovering the property,” said Naidoo.
Man charged for malicious damage to property
A MAN was arrested and charged for malicious damage to property on Saturday, 25 February.
“At 10am a suspect broke a window in a flat in Musgrave Road but because he was disturbed he fled. The complainant, who saw him, chased him to Berea Park where police were handing out crime awareness pamphlets,” said Naidoo.
He said the witness pointed out the suspect to the police and the man was arrested.
“He was taken back to the scene and as the window of the flat was broken he was charged with malicious damage to property,” said Naidoo.
Police recover stolen cars
DURING the course of last week, Capt K Stephens and his team recovered three vehicles stolen in the Berea patrol area, with the help of Tracker.
“The police appreciate any help from the community as well as companies that assist in the fight against crime. We also encourage the community to install a tracking device which increases the chance of recovery,” he said.
