Umbilo girl (8) witnesses mom’s murder

A man has been charged with the murder of his partner at their flat in Bartle Road last week.

AN eight-year-old child watched how her mother’s 46-year-old partner, gunned her down in front of her at their home in Bartle Road, Umbilo.

According to police, the woman, Gugu Pretty Nkosi, was a teacher at Briardale Primary School. She and the suspect had been living together for five years. Their neighbours suspected the woman was a victim of domestic violence.

Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, said on 20 March, at around 3pm, the man had shot Nkosi twice in the face before fleeing. Nkosi died at the scene. She said a neighbour alerted the police who arrived and spoke to the woman’s daughter who had witnessed the shooting.

“The suspect was arrested by Ntuzuma police at 8pm that night and the gun was recovered. He has been charged with murder,” she said.
