Armed gang hit Durban store

A large gang of 10 armed men stormed into a shop in Anton Lembede Street and held up staff on Sunday.

ARMED robbers targeted a business in the Durban CBD fleeing with cash, cellphones and other high end goods at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a large gang of 10 armed men stormed into a shop in Anton Lembede (Smith) Street and held up staff on Sunday.

“The gang demanded cash, asking one of the managers to get the safe keys and open it for them. They grabbed an undisclosed sum of cash from the safe as well as high value goods from the shop and robbed staff of their cellphones and jewellery before fleeing the scene,” Mathios said.

The staff were traumatised but no physical injuries were reported. It is unclear whether the suspects fled on foot or in a getaway vehicle.
