THE Durban K9 Unit arrested suspects found in possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition in the Durban CBD on Monday morning.
Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said at around 7am, officers were patrolling along Dr Pixley kaSeme Street when they stopped a silver Toyota Etios, with five male occupants.
“Upon searching the vehicle, three firearms were recovered with live rounds. The vehicle was also positive on an Umhlali case that was reported in May 2017,” she said.
The men were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and property suspected to be stolen. They will be charged and are due to appear in court.

She said in another incident on 7 July at about 3.30pm, Durban Central Crime Prevention officers arrested a man for business robbery.
“It is alleged that the suspect entered the store in Joe Slovo Street, pointed a firearm at an employee and took an undisclosed amount of cash which was on the counter. The suspect then fled on foot. Police responded and gave chase managed to arrest the suspect,” said Khomo.
Police seized the firearm which was in his possession.
