Mass convictions for women’s month

Twelve men were sentenced to life imprisonment for rape cases while others were sentenced to a total of 394 years in prison.

FAMILY Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal concluded Women’s Month in excellent form by securing over 40 convictions of crimes against women and children.

Teams of dedicated investigators from the FCS Units around the province secured 44 convictions. Other cases remain under investigation or are still at court.

Captain Nqobile Gwala from provincial SAPS said 12 convictions this month are life-sentences, adding that, “a total of 402 suspects were also arrested during the same month for sexual offences.”
