Assistance sought in alleged Durban rape case

Durban Central FCS Unit is looking for information to help solve a case of rape.

DURBAN Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing to the community for assistance with regards to a case of rape they are investigating.

Constable Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said it is alleged that on 21 December 2018 at about 3.30pm a 26-year-old woman was walking with her friends in the vicinity of Moses Mabhida Stadium when they were approached by an unknown man who introduced himself as a prophet.

“After the prophesising session was conducted among the friends, the victim was separated from her friends and was instructed to proceed to a place near the Umgeni River where she was raped by the man,” said Khomo.

Police believe this man can help with information regarding the rape case.

Police believe that the man they have an identikit of can be of assistance in solving the case.

Anyone with information about the man is urged to contact Det Sgt Cele on 031 325 4153, 078 634 0200 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

Khomo said in a separate incident, Durban Central Police would like to sensitise the community to be alert when walking around the Durban CBD.

“People posing as sangomas are instructing people to withdraw their money and give it to them in order to avoid bad luck. We urge the community to report such activities to the nearest police station,” she said.
