Karateka wins gold

The international tournament saw more than seven African countries represented.

GOLDEN girl, Nyska Jagasur, a learner at Maris Stella represented South Africa at the AUSC Region 5 Karate Championships in Namibia recently. The international tournament saw more than seven African countries represented.

Nyska won a gold medal for individual kata as well individual kumite after competing in a higher weight division. She was the only athlete to achieve double gold at the tournament.

Last month, Nyska competed against the top 10 ranked athletes in the country at the Karate South Africa League 1 Championships in Bloemfontein and came home with double gold medals for individual kata and individual kumite, as well as a silver medal for unison kata. Prior to that, she competed at the South African National Karate Championships in Cape Town as part of the KZN team, achieving three bronze medals for individual kata, individual kumite and unison kata.
