Only eligible healthcare workers will be vaccinated at Netcare facilities
Netcare's managing director said while they are pleased to assist the thousands of healthcare workers, it is essential that those who arrive are eligible, have registered and have the correct vouchers.
CHAOS unfolded at Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital on Wednesday as hundreds of healthcare workers queued for their Covid-19 vaccination. However, many of the healthcare workers arrived without registering or receiving their voucher numbers.
Managing director of Netcare Hospitals Jacques du Plessis, said, “We have seen an influx of people arriving at the hospital who were not supposed to come as they had not booked an appointment and but had hope to “walk-in”. St Augustine’s Hospital and Netcare Milpark Hospital continues to vaccinate only eligible healthcare workers who have registered to receive their Covid-19 vaccinations and who have been pre-booked for their vaccination.”
He added that while they are pleased to assist the thousands of healthcare workers, it is essential that those who arrive are eligible, have registered and have the correct vouchers with them in order to receive their vaccines.
Due to the lack of social distancing in the queues, police intervened to assist.
Umbilo SAPS spokesperson, Captain Phumzile Makaula said about 2000 health workers turned up at the hospital. Umbilo SAPS, Metro police and Public Order Policing were in attendance.
