Durban is in for A Wheelie Good Time

THE Durban promenade is the place to be for A Wheelie Good Time on 18 June.
The community initiative will see roller skaters, cyclists and skateboarders gather for a trip down the promenade and it’s all in the name of unity and fun.
The community skate will begin at 17.30.
Organiser of the event, Vicky Kettle, from Hop Skip and Skate roller skating school, said the event will start at The Durban Brewing Company on the Point Waterfront where skaters and cyclists can park safely before taking to the promenade.

“The idea is to meet at a central point where we can wait for each other and start from one point. Afterwards I would like to have a social. Everyone is welcome to join- children can bring their scooters. My aim is to bring the skating community together,” she said.
“I am mainly focused on roller skating, it doesn’t mean roller blades, skate boards or bicycles aren’t welcome. We all share the same skate parks and roads. There’s always been a rift between skate boarders and roller skaters competing for the same turf,” added Kettle.

The community skate route will take skaters along the promenade toward Addington Hospital and back, although advanced skaters can continue to Blue Lagoon and back.
