Popular Durban restaurant burnt down as violent protests continue
More than 700 people reacted to the post with hundreds encouraging the business to rebuild and rise again.
WELL-known eatery, The Oriental Restaurant, located in central Durban, has been destroyed after a fire tore through the building.
This according to the restaurant which took to their Facebook Page to share the news.

“It is with great sadness we would like to inform our loyal customers that our branch at The Workshop has been looted and set alight. Please keep our owners and staff in your prayers and thoughts until we are able to rebuild and restart our journey,” read the post.
“The fire has been contained for now, but the place is destroyed,” they added.
More than 700 people reacted to the post with hundreds sharing supportive comments encouraging the business to rebuild and “rise again”.
EThekwini mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda echoed this message in a recent address, saying: “It is time for the current unrest to stop and for all of us to start rebuilding our City and the economy which has already been battered by the Covid-19 pandemic. If this unrest continues, it will have a long-term devastating impact on our lives and livelihoods.”
The City is currently assessing the economic impact of the unrest and Kaunda will be visiting communities in eThekwini to promote peace and stability.
The Berea Mail reached out to the Oriental Restaurant but they did not send their comment at the time this article was published.
