City on a mission to find the next gospel star

The winners stand a chance to win money, a recording deal, and an opportunity to be mentored by established artists in the gospel music industry as well as possibly being part of a gospel choir that will perform on bigger platforms.

THE eThekwini Municipality is on a mission to find the next big gospel star, with a gospel star competition. The municipality’s gospel programme, formally known as the Gospel Icon Discovery, and recently renamed eThekwini Gospel Crescendos, is back.

The auditions are set to commence this weekend, and if your dream is to become South Africa’s next biggest gospel star, and you are between the ages of 16 and 35, then this is your time to shine. With various audition venues around the city, auditions will begin at 07:00 until 16:00.

The City says that their ultimate goal is to cultivate 30 gospel singers who will go on to create a choir and showcase their talents on bigger platforms.

Aspirant singers who enter this competition stand the chance of winning money, a recording deal and an opportunity to be mentored by established artists in the gospel music industry. This comes after the last winner of the competition joined one of South Africa’s biggest gospel groups, The Joyous Celebration.
