Suspects killed in Cato Crest’s police-suspect shoot-out
Last night, a Cato Crest block of flats became a battleground when the SAPS pounced on suspects who had terrorised the area as well as Durban Central. When the suspects were confronted, they reportedly opened fire at the police, which resulted in a counter-shoot-out.

LAST night (July 30), five suspects, who were wanted for a string of murder and business robbery cases, were shot and fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in Cato Crest.
According to SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, “A multidisciplinary team, comprised of members from various police units in KwaZulu-Natal, was tracking and tracing the suspects when they collected intelligence about their whereabouts.”

“The suspects were cornered at a rented double-storey flat on Standard Road in Cato Crest, and when police announced their presence, the suspects opened fire at the law enforcement officers through the windows. A shoot-out ensued, and after the ceasefire, five suspects were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds. An AK47 assault rifle, three handguns and drugs were found in the possession of the suspects.”
He said the suspects had been positively linked with four counts of murder, 13 cases of business robbery and another case of carjacking which were all committed in the Cato Manor and Durban Central policing precincts.
No police officers were injured during the shootout.
