Tune in to Father’s Day weekend

Glenwood is revving up Father’s Day celebrations with a weekend of activities that include a vintage car show at Glenwood Village on Saturday and a serene orchestra performance at Durban Girls College on Sunday.

FROM a pop-up car showroom at the Glenwood Village on Saturday, June 14, to the sweet sounds of the KZN Youth Orchestra and SA Society of Music Teachers Committees on Sunday, June 15, everyone will be moving to their own tune this Father’s Day weekend in Durban.

Kicking things off with an activation at 09:00 until noon, the Glenwood Village will host a pop-up car showroom on the mezzanine level, near the top of the staircase, where an array of vintage and collectable cars will be on display. The centre management said, “Glenwood car enthusiasts Kevin Cox and Jane Tayfield, together with some friends, will bring their prized cars along to the centre on Saturday morning for visitors to admire. The car owners will be on hand to chat about their pride and joy.”

The show will be accompanied by live music from performer Gary McKenzie, who will be singing along to some Father’s Day tunes. Saturday’s activities will be followed by the sweet sounds of music on Sunday, Father’s Day. There will be an opportunity for orchestral musicians, between the ages of 10 and 20, to spend a day working with professional players, learning what it is like to be part of an orchestra.

The project, called Let’s Band Together, is the initiative of the KZN Youth Orchestra and SA Society of Music Teachers Committees. It will take place at Durban Girls College. Young musicians will have sectional tuition with professionals from KZNPO and thereafter put five pieces together. This will culminate in a concert at 15:30, which is R50 for adults, and R20 for pensioners and scholars via Quicket.
