Another fatal shooting

Just after 08:00 this morning, one person was killed in another shooting incident on Sydney Road near Blake Road in Umbilo. Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find various security companies already on the scene.

“A male, believed to be in his forties, was found lying next to his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was assessed by Advanced Life Support Paramedics, however, he had sustained fatal injuries, and there was nothing more the paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.

According to Captain Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, it is alleged that the victim had parked his vehicle on Sydney Road outside his business premises, and as he was exiting his vehicle, a male who was armed approached him. “The suspect fired once at the deceased, and he fell to the ground, ghen the suspect fired several more shots at close range and fled,” said Makuala. Makuala says that no arrests have been made but a case of murder has been opened at Umbilo SAPS.

About 30 minutes later, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a stabbing incident on Playfair Road in the North Beach area.

“On arrival on scene, a male, of approximately thirty years of age, was found to have sustained fatal stabbing injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” said Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle Van Reenan.

Captain Muzi Maphumulo of the Durban Central SAPS says that he can confirm that the victim was a homeless man, “He had one stab wound. A sharp instrument is suspected to have been used.” said Maphumulo. The police captain says no arrests have been made, and police are still investigating the matter.
