Morningside woman escapes attempted murder

A woman managed to escape with cut wounds on her head – she was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

A SUSPECT (36) was arrested for domestic violence and attempted murder on Churchhill Road in Morningside on Saturday, April 22.

Durban Central SAPS members were patrolling in Morningside when they received a complaint of attempted murder at about 19:40.

According to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo, members arrived on the scene where a woman informed them that the victim, aged 29, had been beaten by a known man who was still inside the premises.

“Police proceeded tactically inside to check. They found the suspect, however, the victim had managed to flee on foot. The victim was found on Windermere Road with cut wounds on her head. She was taken to a local hospital for medical attention in a stable condition,” said Khomo.

Police called for backup, and the suspect was arrested.

“It is alleged that he used a stick to assault the victim who is his girlfriend,” said Khomo.

The suspect is expected to appear before Durban Magistrate’s Court today, April 24.
