IF you are one of the thousands of South Africans who have been missing fish paste, then get your toast into the toaster and start spreading because Pick ’n Pay has announced the return of the two popular fish spreads, Redro Fish Spread and Peck’s Anchovette.

This announcement was welcomed with enthusiasm by the public as many South Africans have been missing the well-loved condiment in their pantry.

According to Pick ’n Pay’s social media post, the restocking of these spreads was driven by ‘popular demand.’

Available for purchase in 125g jars at a price point of R39.99, the spreads are currently exclusive to Pick ’n Pay outlets.

Both Redro Fish Spread and Peck’s Anchovette have been staples in South African households before the condiments were discontinued in 2021 by Pioneer Food retailers.

While they are most commonly spread over toast, their uses extend into a variety of culinary domains. They can be used for sauces, dips and even pasta.

Fish paste lovers can finally breathe a sigh of relief, and the next time you’re browsing the condiment aisle at Pick ‘n Pay, the fish spreads will be back in their rightful spot on the shelf.
