December 8 until 17

Highway Art Group annual exhibition at Watercrest Mall

The Highway Art Group are having their Annual Exhibition at Watercrest Mall from Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 17. The exhibition is open from 09:00 to 17:00 each day. The Highway Art Group was established over 50 years ago and the group meets every second month at the Westville Methodist Church. Twenty-seven artists will exhibiting their artwork. Paintings in all media are for sale. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife. Contact Irma Isbister on 082 338 8876.

Umhlanga Tourism fun run and walk

Paw Prints Rescue and Rehoming charity sale

Come support Paw Prints on December 16 in their last sale for 2023. Second-hand and new goodies will be for sale, and all funds raised will go towards caring for the rescued dogs. The sale is open from 09:00 until 12:00 at 4 Clement Scott Road, Botha’s Hill. Please bring your own bag/box to carry your goods home afterwards.

Umgeni Steam Railway train trips with Santa

Come see the beautiful sights of the Valley of 1000 Hills on the Umgeni Steam Engine. The trip is roughly 75 minutes. The market is available to browse for various treasures on sale, and there will be food and activities for the whole family. The Inchanga Railway Museum and Thomas and Friends are both open for a visit. Santa will be on board from December 15 to 24. Carols by Candlelight will be sung upon return from the 17:00 trips on December 15 and 16. Tickets cost R170 per adult, R110 for pensioners and R110 for children from 2–12 years. Saturday, December 16

Carols by Candlelight at Kloof & Highway SPCA

Come support our furry friends this festive season at the SPCA for carols at 29 Village Road, Kloof. Carols will commence in Marilyn’s Tea Garden at 18:00 and continue until 20:00. The Durban Regiment Pipe Band will be opening, followed by Belinda Dolphin who will coordinate and lead the carols. Surprise entertainment is planned, as well. The cost is R50 per person and includes a candle. It is R20 for children under 12 years. Dogs are welcome on leashes. Food and refreshments will be on sale with on-site vendors, such as The Vegan Kitchen, Marilyn’s Tea Garden, Paws for Coffee and Langtons Brewery. This pop-up shop and tea garden opens from 09:00 to 15:00. The venue is 6 Controversy Drive, Assagay, Durban. Gardening goodies, gifts, stocking fillers, cakes, sweet treats, coffee and tea will be on sale.

Mr and Mrs Normal live show at Rhumbelow

Rhumbelow Theatre presents the live comedy show, Mr and Mrs Normal, which casts Lisa Bobbert and Aaron McIlroy. The show is directed and choreographed by Daisy Spencer. The Reals Tribute to Eric Clapton at Rhumbelow

Rhumbelow Theatre presents the live show, The Reals Tribute to Eric Clapton. The show stars Barry Thomson and The Reals (Dawn Selby, Andy Turrell, and Mali Sewell) and guest guitarist, Colin Peddie. Look forward to Clapton’s top hits, such as Layla, Sunshine Of Your Love, Bell Bottom Blues, I Shot The Sheriff, Wonderful Tonight, Change The World, Bad Love, Tears In Heaven and Crossroads. Paint and Sip at The Shongweni Farmer’s and Craft Market

Virginia Bush Nature Reserve beginners’ hike

Durban Hiking and Adventure has organised a beginners’ hike through a beautiful coastal forest. The hike starts at 14:00. Park and meet on the corner of Margaret Maytom and Hinton Grove (up the road from Virginia Checkers). Please do not park at the main entrance of the reserve. The hike is approximately 6km and is Grade One Easy, and is expected to take 2–3 hours. Tickets cost R70 per person. Please wear walking/hiking shoes with a good grip.
