Two people shot in shoot-out with police

While SAPS attempted to apprehend the suspect, the suspect started shooting at SAPS members.

LAST night, in Congela, a robbery suspect and an innocent bystander were shot in a shoot-out between the police and the robbery suspect.

According to dRK Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Cait Hagerman, at 18:20 last night, the dRKEMS control centre received information that a shooting had occurred on Sydney Road in the Congela area of Durban.

“It is alleged that a robbery had taken place earlier near the Dalton taxi rank, and SAPS were attempting to apprehend a suspect when the suspect started shooting at SAPS members,” said Hagerman.

In return, SAPS opened fire, killing the male suspect, aged approximately 40 years old.

“During this incident, it is alleged a bystander who was trying to purchase traditional medicine was also shot,” said Hagerman.

Hagerman said the dRKEMS paramedics arrived on the scene and declared the wounded suspect deceased on Blake Road and then were directed to Sydney Road where the bystander was found.
