Durban Central police seek man to assist in rape case

A man could be of assistance in solving a serious case that the police are investigating in Durban. The public is urged to be on the lookout for and report the individual who may be linked to these case.

SAPS Durban Central are seeking assistance in locating a man who can be of assistance in solving a rape case they are investigating.

The Family, Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating a case of rape involving a 27-year-old woman, according to Sergeant Zanele Khomo, spokesperson of SAPS Durban Central.

“It is alleged that on December 12 last year at about 22:00 a woman was at her place of residence near Umgeni Road consuming alcohol with her known friend and three unknown persons. She later decided to go and sleep. The next day at about 06:00 she noticed that she had been raped by one of the men who were drinking with her.

“Police believe that the male in the identikit could be of assistance in solving the case.”

Police share tips to help minimise rape:

  • Don’t leave drinks unattended.
  • Don’t drink anything you didn’t open yourself.
  • Keep your drink in your possession.
  • “Drugs” can be put in drinks and cause intense drunkenness and memory loss.

Police appeal to anyone who might have information to contact the investigating officer, Constable ST Madonsela, on 078 255 2468 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
