Bulk vessel in violent night collision at Port of Durban

Dramatic footage circulating on social media appears to show the Hawk S violently colliding with a quay at the Port of Durban.

AS seen on various social media platforms, photos and video footage showed a Hawk S ship violently smashing into a quay of the harbour.

The dramatic incident reportedly took place on Monday, August 31, due to a suspected brake failure.

In a statement today, Transnet National Ports Authority confirmed that the incident occurred at the Port of Durban on August 31. The authority said the vessel was moved to an alternative berth for inspections and that there were no reports of injuries. An investigation will be launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
