DURBAN Central police cluster held a Diwali programme for Hindu police members celebrating the Festival of Lights at the Somsteu Road Temple on Friday, 1 November.
A programme full of prayers, bhajans and classical Indian dance, many performed by members themselves, also included a Diwali message from Swami Lokasangrahananda and a talk on the significance of Diwali by Captain (Guru) Nanda Pillay.
After the formalities members led by Pillay lit clay lamps and candles as they undertook the Diwali Pledge to illuminate their surrounding by offering hope, compassion and comfort to mankind and brightening their environment becoming a beacon of light to those around them.
