Blood stocks run low

Become a nation of doers, and become a regular, committed blood donor.

BLOOD plays a vital role in our health care system and many patients are counting on blood transfusions to assist them with a variety of medical issues.

Each year the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is faced with the terrible reality that it will not be able to meet the patient’s demand in the country – a situation that it is faced with regularly over the holidays.

KZN is currently on 0.9 day’s cover instead of the five days cover needed in order to be able to supply the hospitals. With a long weekend coming up and in a month’s time “the very long” Easter weekend, without the commitment from regular blood donors throughout the year, meeting the collection target of blood donations is virtually impossible.

SANBS is encouraging all regular donors and those who have made a conscious decision to join this cause of “saving lives” to become a nation of doers and to not let life get in the way of life.
