3 x tapered timber furniture legs
Tape measure and pencil
Handsaw
20L round plastic bucket
10kg bag of sand and cement mix
Spatula and paint
Scrap cardboard
1 Measure 60cm along the length of your furniture legs, start from the bottom, and mark with a pencil. Saw off the tops of each leg and discard them.
2 In the plastic bucket, combine 8 parts cement and 1.5 parts water (use a soup tin for measuring). Mix with a spatula until it forms a smooth consistency. This will form your concrete table top.
3 Place the top end of one leg in the cement mix, wiggling it down until its submerged by 5cm, then lean it on the inside edge of the bucket for support. Repeat the step with the other two legs, spacing all the legs evenly apart (like a tripod). Check that the legs are even. Leave it to set for at least 24 hours.
4 Give the bucket a squeeze to loosen the harden cement, then slowly and carefully remove the table from the bucket.
5 For a ‘sock’ effect on the legs, measure 8cm from the bottom of each leg and mark with pencil. Carefully dip each leg into a paint pot up to the mark, then place the table upright on cardboard to try.
