Reiger Park pool teams dominant in league opener
The league consists of a total of 15 teams made up of 10 players each,
The Reiger Park Black Ball Pool League (RPBPL) got underway at Delmore Park towards the end of February.
League games are normally played on Sundays from 3pm, and work on a home and away basis with each team having an opportunity to host.
The next set of games of the league will be played at Windmill Park on March 28.
The league opener also featured some women who competed with and against the men.
Nerissa Minnie, one of the tournament organisers, said the league’s aim is to introduce more women to the sport, which is currently work in progress.
Players that stood out in Delmore include South African championships starlet Vernon ‘The One’ Goba, who began playing the game at the tender age of nine.
The East Rand Secondary learner recently finished sixth out of 250 players at a national tournament.
Team Fuzzy Orange from Reiger Park took top honours with Young Predators and Players, also from Reiger Park, completing the top three.
RPBPL chairman Hilton Minnie said: “As the newly elected chairman of the league, I am very pleased with the outcome of Saturday’s events, even though the rain came down, the spirit of each player remained.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank each team that participated, and also to the members of the board. Without all of them, this would not have been possible.
“Well done to Fuzzy Orange for taking first place, let’s continue with the team spirit.”
Hilton was elected to his position in early February, and took over from Bayren Pieterse.
