Winter Wool Drive ‘bearly’ off the ground but picking up speed

Social knitting circles are welcome to jump in and help us knit squares for blankets, beanies, gloves or scarves.

The Advertiser’s annual Winter Wool Drive recently kicked off with a bang after 70 hand-knitted teddy bears were donated to the drive by Springs resident Martie Zwanevelder.

The staff quickly set out to ensure these were in turn donated to good local causes, handing bags of bears over to the Boksburg SPCA, Boksburg Child Welfare and the Boksburg Children’s Court (to be confirmed).

The drive remains open for donations of wool, knitting needles and knitted items until the end of August.

All donations of wool and knitting needles will go to old-age homes and other community members interested in knitting squares, which can be sewn into blankets or to knit beanies, gloves, scarves and the like for distribution to those in need this winter.

Organisations with social knitting circles who would like to knit squares or anyone wanting more information can email Elize Kluyts at elizek@caxton.co.za
