Mubenga Academy shows PSIRA certificate can lead to careers and businesses

At a Youth Day in Boksburg, Mubenga Security Services & Training Academy told young people a PSIRA security qualification entrepreneurship, launching a new youth skills initiative and welcoming Motor Hub director Bandile Six as a guest speaker.

To celebrate Youth Day, Mubenga Security Services and Training Academy demonstrated that a PSIRA security certificate can be much more than a “gate job,” offering young people possibilities for employment and business opportunities.

The event, which took place at Light of the World Divine Power Ministries in Delmore under the theme ‘Beyond Security Grades: Building Skills, Creating Opportunities, Securing Futures’, included workshops on career readiness, a keynote address by businessman Bandile Six, and the introduction of the Mubenga Youth Skills Empowerment Initiative (MYSEI), which will provide twice-yearly accredited training for underprivileged and orphaned youth.

According to the organisers, the goal is to give trainees the business tools and practical security skills they need to reach the broader employment market.

The one-day programme included a career-readiness session delivered by Maletchaba Human Capital Agency that covered interview techniques and workplace preparedness, while community leaders, including Clearance for Community Leader Ntikinca, attended and publicly endorsed the academy’s practical-skills approach.

Mubenga, which holds PSIRA accreditation, said the training is designed to give youth options beyond conventional security roles.

The testimonial of former student Bandile Six, who is currently director of Motor Hub, a vehicle-tracking fitness company, was one of the day’s highlights.

Six reminded the audience that he was able to transition from trainee to business owner because of his PSIRA scores and the discipline of approved training.

“Attitude keeps you in the room, but skills open the door. Programmes like this give young people something tangible, an accredited qualification, a foothold in an industry, and proof that they can commit to something and finish it.”

Thami Mubenga, the founder of Mubenga Security Services and Training Academy, stated, “I think the event was a success considering it was the first time, and everyone didn’t know what to expect.”

“We wanted to demonstrate to young people the variety of jobs and even business opportunities that can be obtained with a security qualification.”

Six added he feels strongly about what Mubenga is building.

“Participating in Youth Day served as a reminder of my own journey, which took me from having ideas to managing Motor Hub through organised training and the correct mindset. I wanted the young people to leave with that.”

MYSEI, in collaboration with Light of the World Divine Power Ministries, was introduced by the organisers.

To improve employability and promote the establishment of small businesses, MYSEI will offer recognised PSIRA training twice a year to local orphaned and impoverished youth.

According to Mubenga officials, they will keep an eye on graduates and look into mentorship and placement opportunities with nearby companies.

Many security-related positions in South Africa require the PSIRA certification.

In response to the high rate of youth unemployment and the lack of formal work experience among young people in the area, Mubenga hopes to increase the qualification’s appeal by combining it with coaching on job preparedness and entrepreneurship.
