Did you know Johnny from Delmore Gardens?
The people of Delmore Gardens are searching for Johnny’s family so they can ensure he’s laid to rest properly and with care.

The Delmore Gardens community is coming together in search of the family of a man by the name of Johnny (surname unknown) to ensure he is laid to rest with the dignity and respect he deserves.
Despite having no official documents or known relatives, Johnny was a beloved figure in the area, and now residents are hoping to find his family to help with his funeral arrangements.
Cathy Ruiters, a community leader in the area, shared that Johnny passed away on May 7. While many details of his life remain unknown, what is clear is the lasting impression he made on those around him.
He had no ID, no traceable family, and no known origins, only his name and a gentle, humble presence that earned him a place in the hearts of the community.
“We all knew Johnny as a gentle soul,” Ruiters said, taking the lead in organising funeral arrangements.
“He didn’t say much, but he was part of us. We made sure he had food, clothing, and a bit of company. Now, we just want to make sure he’s laid to rest properly.”

Johnny lived in Delmore Gardens for over 20 years, most recently staying in the backyard of a community member after others he had stayed with moved away.
Ruiters explained that they had encouraged Johnny to sort out his documents, offering to help him through the process.
Although speculation surrounds Johnny’s origins, with some suggesting he may have come from the Eastern Cape or Western Cape, no firm details have been confirmed. The community believes Johnny was in his late 60s.
With no next of kin to assist, the residents have also launched a donation drive to cover the cost of Johnny’s funeral and burial.
Ruiters is appealing to anyone who might know Johnny’s family or who can assist financially to come forward.
“If you know anything about where Johnny came from or who his family might be, please let us know. Even the smallest detail could help us find someone who knew him before he came here.”
Ruiters can be reached directly at 079 696 0270. All donations will go toward funeral expenses. If no relatives are found, the community is committed to ensuring Johnny receives a respectful and heartfelt farewell.
“In life, Johnny didn’t have much, but he had us. And we’ll make sure he’s not forgotten.”
