Dawn Park police are investigating the alleged sexual assault and intimidation of a 13-year-old learner at a Boksburg school.

Captain Sekgobela said the incident allegedly occurred recently in the school toilets.

According to police, two boys wearing school uniforms, with their faces covered, allegedly assaulted the learner, making their identities uncertain.
Police said the two alleged suspects have been identified, while warning and witness statements are being obtained. No arrests have been made.

The police update follows a preliminary report from the Gauteng Department of Education that two boys allegedly followed a Grade 8 learner into the girls’ toilets during dismissal, where they allegedly restrained her and attempted to remove some of her clothing.

The alleged incident was interrupted when members of the school’s general staff approached the toilets while carrying out cleaning duties, prompting the two boys to flee.
The department said the learner’s parents were contacted and SAPS was called to the school.

Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile described the allegations as serious. She said the department would cooperate fully with the police investigation while providing psychosocial support to the learner and her family.

The department has also cautioned against sharing information that could reveal the identities of the learners involved.
