Boksburg FC juniors complete centenary double
They clinched the U13 ELFA league and cup double.
Boksburg Football Club’s centenary celebrations have been given a fitting highlight after its U13 Premier side completed a memorable league and cup double.
In a season that will go down as a special chapter in the club’s 100-year history, the young Blues were crowned Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA) U13 Premier League champions before adding the U13 Cup to their trophy cabinet.
Two trophies in a centenary year made it a season to remember for the young players and coach Xzenepher Jacobs.
The road to the league title was not straightforward, however.

Boksburg began their campaign with a 2-0 away defeat to Luso Africa, who eventually finished third, before drawing 2-2 at home against Old Bens.
Jacobs admitted the team struggled to prepare adequately ahead of the season as he balanced his full-time job with his coaching commitments.
Once he found the right balance, the results began to turn.
Boksburg secured their first victory with a hard-fought 3-2 win away against Alberton before building momentum throughout the remainder of the campaign.
The young Blues eventually finished top of the U13 Premier League standings, suffering just one defeat and two draws while winning the remainder of their matches.
Their success was built largely on defensive discipline, with Boksburg conceding only 13 goals in 20 league matches.
Jacobs said the team’s ability to defend as a unit became one of its biggest strengths.

“My philosophy is that my attackers are my first line of defence and my defence is my first line of attack,” he said.
“When the boys are out of possession, everyone knows they have to get behind the ball. Once they started understanding that, the team began working like a well-oiled machine.”
The league triumph was followed by an even bigger opportunity to complete the double.

On September 27, Boksburg faced Bedfordview in the U13 Cup final.
Bedfordview had finished second in the league and had proved one of Boksburg’s toughest opponents during the campaign.
The young Blues, though, rose to the occasion, producing a strong performance to secure a 4-2 victory and lift the cup.
The result sealed a historic double and ensured two pieces of silverware would mark the club’s 100th anniversary.
Jacobs said the achievement was not about one individual.
He praised his players for their commitment and resilience, while also thanking the club’s board, fellow coaches, his family and the parents who sacrificed their time to ensure the youngsters could attend training and matches.
Jacobs believes the season’s success extends beyond football, with sport helping young players develop discipline, teamwork and responsibility.
He urged his players to enjoy their off-season, continue working hard and return ready for another challenge.
“Do well at school, pass the year with flying colours and come back ready for the next challenge.”
