A guy’s view of the matric dance
It's matric dance time again and the most exciting and often scary part about your matric dance is your handsome date and what he is thinking.
Well here is a glimpse into what most guys go through before and during the matric dance.
Do guys stress about who they are going to ask to this important occasion?
The answer is yes. Guys are just as stressed about who will accompany them to the matric dance and mostly worried about being rejected if they ask the girl they would like to go with them and she says no.
It’s not easy to go up to someone you admire, especially if she is with her friends, and ask the big question. Girls must understand that this takes a lot of guts and they mustn’t be nasty or laugh at the guy.
You should be flattered that he thought of asking you, even if you cannot go with him.
How does a guy go about asking someone to go to the matric dance with him?
A good place to pose the question to his dream date is at school – it is neutral ground and you see each other every day.
He might try to catch you at your locker, or just before you go home, but almost always when you are on your own.
Alternatively, the phone is always a good option – you are both relaxed at home and he will have time to practise what he is going to say.
It will also be easier for him to hide his disappointment in case you say no to his invitation.
Outfits
Unlike the girls, who like to buy or have their outfits made, guys generally prefer hiring a suit. Keep in mind that men are not psychic, so if you want something in his outfit to match your gorgeous dress or suit, you must let him know what colour you are wearing.
There are some no-no’s to remember when organising outfits and matching colours, including the following:
- Any and every type of velvet.
- The whole suit matching your outfit.
- White shoes.
Your chariot awaits
What your date would really like is to arrive on your doorstep with a bunch of flowers matching your outfit and to drive you to the dance himself (of course, he will have to have his driver’s licence for this).
Alternatively, he will beg or borrow from anyone he knows to make sure you have the coolest, most stylish car taking you to the dance.
I could have danced all night
If you are expecting a whole night of dancing arm-in-arm, just the two of you close together, then you may want to adjust your expectations, because the general consensus among guys is that one or two token dances is enough and then the dancing becomes a group thing.
So, there a few secret insights into the thoughts and worries of guys around matric dance time.
Of course this is just a general view, and 1 000 things could be different, according to the different personality types.
But, one thing stays the same, and that is that the matric dance is one of the highlights of your school career – almost a reward for studying and doing homework for 12 years.
So, make the most of it – look as gorgeous as you can and have the most fun that you can. It is, after all, your night to shine.
