Motorists comply by carrying drivers licences

There has been a dramatic decrease in the amount of fines issued to motorists for driving without their driver's licences.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, 16 fines were issued to motorists for driving without their card driver’s licence.

“Three vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy, and 31 fines issued for registration and licensing,” he says.

Mokheseng adds that 40 fines were issued for moving violations, which included driving over channelising and emergency lanes, failing to affix registration plates, operating a vehicle with damaged tyres, talking on a cellphone while driving, without a hands-free kit and failing to wear a seatbelt.

A further 279 fines were issued for parking and stopping offences.

Some 307 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and at informal settlements.

“We issued 12 fines to motorists for driving without their Professional Drivers Permits (PRDP).”

There were 13 accidents in the Boksburg area, all of which resulted in damages only.
