
They have established a positive working relationship with schools in the area, and give talks on crime prevention during assembly and in classes on a weekly basis.
They also offer rehabilitation courses for young people who have taken a decision to clean up their act and turn their lives around.
Chairperson of the Youth Desk, Kabelo Manamela, says that their unit is also involved in youth development, and engages with relevant stakeholders, encouraging them to absorb young people from the community into their companies to curb the rate of unemployment.
“As young people we need to take a stand to fight crime and to live up to the slogan ‘the youth shall govern’. By working together we can do more.
“We need to stop waiting for someone to do something for us, but we need to use platforms such as social networks positively, by researching business forums and youth development programmes instead of just chatting,” he says.
