The assailant then was caught and beaten by the community on Saturday, July 20.
Police says the 36-year-old Londrick Vuma, from Angelo, was killed at his shebeen just after 6pm on Saturday.
Police officers were called at about 6.30pm, and found both the deceased and his alleged attacker lying in a pool of blood inside the tavern.
The shebeen owner was pronounced dead at the scene and had two stab wounds in his chest.
Residents ran to the shebeen when they heard the commotion caused by the attack.
They apparently found the suspect allegedly attacking the shebeen owner with a knife. The residents then allegedly attacked the assailant with stones, bottles and sticks.
The assailant, who sustained head and body injuries, was taken to Tambo Memorial Hospital under police guard.
He would appear soon in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
No residents have been arrested.
The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, and it is not yet established if the suspected killer was having a drink at the sheeben at the time of the attack.
The area has seen quite a number of murders, attempted murders, assaults, domestic violence and rapes, mostly on weekends, and police blame excessive drinking of alcohol for all these crimes.
Police are investigating a murder case.
