Something fishy is going on in Witfield
Concerned citizens are devastated by the mass death among the fish population in the Witfield Dam, the weekend of Sunday, November 17.
The Ekurhuleni municipality’s water quality section, responsible for pollution control and monitoring of the dam, says it is not aware of the pollution, which has resulted in the mass death among the fish population in the dam.
According to Sam Modiba, spokesperson for the metro, a water quality official took samples after the incident, as per their monthly sampling schedule, and according to him, there was no visible pollution at the sampling point at the inlet and the outlet of the dam.
Modiba stated that the section will, however, investigate the claims further, by conducting an inspection around the dam.
“They will take samples and investigate the origination of any pollution. Necessary actions will be taken against the polluter should the origination of the pollution be confirmed.
The finding of the investigation will be communicated as soon as all the relevant information has been gathered and verified.”
