ANC Youth League celebrates 20 years of freedom
With the celebration of 20 years of freedom and democracy, the ANC Youth League says young people need to realise that their freedom was not free.
“Thousands of young and old, black and white, men and women paid the ultimate sacrifice and perished in the course of the struggle for this freedom.
“Our young people should not act like many who falsely talk of a miracle and then take away the credit of the sacrifice from those who lost their lives in defense of the cause of freedom,” says the Youth Leagues spokesperson Bandile Masuklu.
“Many of the people who committed themselves to the transformation of the South African society did not even get to see the proverbial ‘promised land’ of a democratic society,” he further adds.
Masuku says young people need to appreciate the prize that was paid for their freedom, and should go out in their numbers on Wednesday, May 7, to vote so that the gains of the past 20 years can be defended and new progress registered.
