DA honours Madiba by planting trees
The DA branch of Van Dyk Park celebrated Mandela Day on July 18, by planting trees in honour of the great man and his pride in the South African environment.

“Although the branch requested 20 trees to help beautify the dump site at the entrance of Van Dyk Park, the metro Parks Department managed to provide five and promised that the rest would be delivered soon,” says DA city Clr Shelley Loe.
The trees were planted by enthusiastic activists on the corner of Barry Marais Road and Keurboom Street, Van Dyk Park.
Ward Clr Shaune le Roux, thanked members of the community and the branch who donated their time and effort.
Van Dyk Park Spar came on board and donated soup and bread rolls for members of the public who participated.
Le Roux said that she, the DA branch chairperson, Johan Erasmus, and vice-chairperson, Wynand van der Walt, were pleasantly surprised at the number of people who turned out.
“People came out of their homes to assist, children and adults alike, making this event a true reflection of what Madiba stood for.
“Soup and rolls were handed out by staff members of the Spar, creating a unity and spirit that would have made him proud,” says Loe. – @IschkeBoksburg
