Load reduction introduced in parts of Boksburg

Sunward Park resident were left furious today when the power went out again.

The metro says the reason Boksburg residents experiencing power outages is due to the implementation of a forced reduction especially during peak demand in the morning and afternoon.

“Since the incident over the weekend at the Les Smit substation, one of the Eskom transformers failed and some oil samples cannot be energised, resulting in a bit of shortfall in capacity requirements from the metro’s side,” says metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Gadebe further explains that the Metro is now forced to implement load reduction.

“The maximum capacity we need from Eskom is around 66 MVA and currently Eskom can supply 60MVA.”

Parts of Boksburg lost the power supply on Saturday at around 7am following the explosion of the Incoming Circuit Breaker from Eskom to Ekurhuleni.

Gadebe says Eskom is currently working on the transformer to get it back in operation and this may take a day or two. -@TumeloBoksburg
