Close friend shattered by woman’s death in bike accident
Petro Cowley was left heavy-hearted after a motorcycle accident claimed the life of her best friend.
Salome Bradley died after the bike on which she was a passenger and a BMW collided at the intersection of Rondebult and North Rand roads, just before 4pm on January 30.
Salome was on the bike with her friend, Kevin McKenzie, who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
The emotional Petro told the Advertiser that she had been friends with Salome for a very long time.
“Not a day would go by without us speaking to each other,” she wept.
“I always expected her call or message – we were like sisters.
“All of a sudden she is no more and it’s really breaking my heart.”
Petro said Salome and Kevin, both Kempton Park residents, were friends and not husband and wife as initially thought.
They were both divorced.
Salome was born on February 13, 1970, and had two children, an 19-year-old daughter named Shavonne and a six-year-old son, named Justin.
Kevin has a 10-year-old son.
Petro said that, at the time of the accident, the two were on their way home to have a braai with the children.
EMER-G-MED reported on its Facebook page following the accident that, on arrival, paramedics found that a motorcycle and a BMW had been involved in a T-bone collision.
“The two people on the bike, believed to be a married couple, both sustained very critical injuries and required immediate Advanced Life Support intervention,” said EMER-G-MED
“While trying to stabilise the patients for transport, the female’s heart stopped.
“Paramedics immediately began CPR and performed other life-saving interventions but, unfortunately, her injuries were too extensive – she was declared dead on the scene.
”The male biker was stabilised on-scene before being transported to a nearby hospital under Advanced Life Support care.
”He remains in a critical condition.
”The driver of the car, who was also transported to a nearby hospital, sustained minor injuries and was severely traumatised.”
EMPD Media Liaison Officer Kobeli Mokheseng said that they are investigating a culpable homicide case.
“On Saturday, January 30, at around 4.56pm, at the corner of North Rand and Rondebult roads, a blue Suzuki motorcycle travelling north on Rondebult Road crashed into a BMW sedan turning right (at the traffic light controlled intersection) towards Germiston from the N12 bridge; the car was operated by a female driver in her 30s,” said Mokheseng.
He explained that it is not clear at this stage what the cause of the accident was, but a case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Boksburg North SAPS and is being investigated.
Bradley’s funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 4 at 2pm at the NG Church Mooifontein.
