Life imprisonment for child rapist
A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl in Reiger Park.
The investigating officer, Det Sgt Simon Molise, said the Boksburg Magistrates Court sentenced Mdumiseni Chiya on August 10, after he was found guilty of raping the Reiger Park girl.
According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the victim was on her way home from her friend’s home in October, last year, when Chiya dragged her into a secluded area, where he repeatedly raped her.
The rapist also threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about the incident.
The girl, however, informed her mother about her ordeal; the police were immediately contacted and a case of rape was registered at the Reiger Park Police Station.
The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation and the rapist was later apprehended.
Chiya made several court appearances before he was found guilty and sentenced.
Molise conducted a diligent, thorough and good investigation, leaving no stone unturned.
